  • Photo of the Day 14th March 2025.

Long exposure of a man wearing a black stetson hat and a black shirt with red piping around the pockets. There are 2 images of him in the frame, the lowest is frozen in place because of a flash, then another as he moves while the shutter is open. In the upper image, he is singing into a microphone in front of him. Red light is painted around his head. The walls in the background are entirely black.
Michael “Zu” Zufelt, lead guitarist of the Los Angeles-based band Four Star Mary, at Jabez Clegg, Manchester, 16th March 2008.

Bonus Photo of the Day 14th March 2015.

A man standing on a stage, screaming into a microphone held on a stand. He has short dark hair, and is wearing a black shirt and light grey trousers and white trainers, and is playing a brown electric guitar. In the background, a drum kit is in the middle of the stage, with black curtains behind that, with large coloured lights on roof-mounted racks at the top of the frame, pointing at the front of the stage.
Kev Dixon, singer and guitarist with Junk Culture, a Liverpool-based band, at a gig at L2, Liverpool, 5th July 2001. Of all the photos I took of Kev over the years, this is probably my fave, it’s just a pity I only have this compressed edit rather than the original.

A man with short, blond, spiky hair, wearing a white t-shirt with a large black and red image across the chest, playing a red and black bass guitar. His right arm is covered in black tattoos. • Photo of the Day 13th March 2025.

Close-up of a white electric guitar being played by someone wearing a black t-shirt with a yellow and blue design on the front, and black pants, with several wristbands on their right wrist. Their right arm is frozen in place by the flash, but is also obviously moving, the long exposure painting it's edges with light. The background is blurred into smears of light.
An action shot of the lead guitarist from the band Vigilance wielding his weapon of choice at a warm-up gig at the Astley Rifleman, Stalybridge, 6th September 2012. I had long since left the music biz, but my son was the singer in a band, and they wanted some photos, so here I was…

  • Photo of the Day 11th March 2025.

2 members of a band performing on stage-on the left, a man with brown hair, wearing a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans, playing a black and blue bass guitar, leaning forwards, with another man on the right, with unkempt ginger hair, and wearing a dark blue t-shirt and light blue jeans, playing a purple electric guitar and leaning backwards. Both men are frozen in place by the flash, but are still obviously moving, leaving coloured shadows at the edges of their arms and heads. A red light in the upper right corner is painting the center of the frame, creating visual echoes of the head of the bass. Black walls with mounted wooden frames fill the background.
Ben Murray (bass guitar) and Mike Mullard (lead guitar) of Junk Culture on stage and doing their thing at The Barfly, Liverpool, 25th November 2003. I had a stylistic thing going on, long exposures to create dynamic movement, frozen in place by a flash.

Long exposure shot of a young man wearing a blue t-shirt with barely decipherable text on the chest, and blue jeans, staring at the camera. He is laying a black bass guitar with his right hand, holding the guitars neck in his left. He has obviously moved during the exposure, with a second, orange version of him on the left of the frame in a different pose, looking down and to the right, with streaks of orange light joining the 2 images. In both images, the background is visible through his legs and body.

His knees are bent, almost crouching, while his arms are spread wide, his hands level with his head. On the singers other side, a man in a grey shirt is standing behind him, his back turned to the audience. A white amp is in the middle of the frame in the background. A young woman with red hair, wearing a blue top that leaves her arms bare. In her right hand she is holding a microphone to her mouth, her mouth wide open and her eyes closed as she sings. Behind her, the room is dark, apart from the rather dirty white tiles on the ceiling.
